How DMAA Works for You

DMAA Advocacy

Policy makers know DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance as the voice of population health improvement and turn to DMAA member leaders and staff for the information and resources they need to guide the decision making process. Through its Government Affairs Committee, DMAA answers that call with expertise that contributes to the process while always protecting the interests of its corporate and individual members.

The Committee, open to all association members, works to support state and federal legislative initiatives that promote evidence-based disease management and care coordination. It exists as the advocacy voice for all DMAA member organizations and considers all views and policy standpoints in development of consensus industry policy.

On the federal level, DMAA responds to emerging legislative proposals and regulatory policies that impact its members and others conducting chronic disease care in commercial and public programs. DMAA has a leadership role, working closely with key members of Congress and administration officials to shape legislation, regulations and pilot projects to allow for effective administration of population health initiatives.

On the state level, budget pressures have caused policy makers to seek innovative alternatives to traditional care that save money and maintain a high standard of care for disadvantaged populations. Population-based care has proved to meet both these needs, and DMAA continues to work with state lawmakers and regulatory officials, educating them on the effectiveness of prevention, wellness and chronic disease care and its benefits to Medicaid populations.

DMAA Research

DMAA's ambitious research agenda has generated a rich collection of new documents and reports and established the association as a leader on key issues, including outcomes measurement, program compliance and participant satisfaction. In these areas and others, DMAA excels through the efforts of its Quality and Research Committee, dedicated staff and productive partnerships with external stakeholders.

Recent research activities have focused on establishing consensus measures for outcomes in disease management, including financial and clinical performance. This work produced the seminal DMAA Outcomes Guidelines Report in 2006 and a second volume in 2007. A third volume is in the works for 2008. DMAA has partnered with the National Committee for Quality Assurance throughout the Outcomes Project to develop robust clinical measures for chronic disease care.

Other recent research initiatives include those to develop participant and provider satisfaction survey tools, a "buyer's guide" for predictive modeling services and a second edition of the popular Dictionary of Disease Management Terminology.

The role of DMAA as a research leader speaks to the organization's commitment to advancing the science and delivery of population health improvement by identifying and promoting evidence-based practices and proven approaches to high-quality, efficient care.

DMAA Educational Programming

Since our first annual conference in San Francisco, in 1999, DMAA has been a leader in quality educational programming for chronic disease care professionals. Today, more than 1,200 individuals annually attend our annual meeting to learn about innovative new population-based strategies, program designs, implementation, outcomes measurement, methodology and other hot topics.

DMAA's annual conference blends quality educational sessions, the Leadership Awards program, policy-setting committee meetings, networking receptions and events and the largest exhibits forum in chronic disease care into a single premier event that draws health and business leaders from all corners of the globe.

DMAA members receive discounts for the Forum and associated summits and workshops. Member organizations also receive special pricing for exhibit booths and prominent recognition in conference materials.

DMAA's educational programming now extends far beyond our annual conference. To keep up with demand for new educational content, DMAA periodically presents Webcasts and audio conferences on emerging issues and other timely topics. DMAA also offers select presentations from the DMLF in a synchronized audio and slide format through its members-only ePresentation Library.

DMAA Communications

DMAA has packaged together print and Web-delivered media to provide its members with the most up-to-date information available.

Through a successful partnership with Mary Ann Liebert Publishers Inc., DMAA members receive Disease Management, the association's official peer-reviewed journal. It is the only peer-reviewed publication that brings you both the most current clinical and business developments in population health. Members receive both a print and online subscription and the ability to view full text of archived issues via member access on the DMAA Web site.

DMAA eNews is the association's weekly e-mail newsletter that provides breaking news about health care policy, member companies, quality and research initiatives and other matters of interest in the population health community. Members also may post free, two-week job listings up to five times annually and receive discounts on listings beyond that number.

DMAA Leadership

DMAA members include prevention, wellness and disease management companies and support service providers, health plans, hospitals, integrated delivery systems, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy benefit managers, physician groups, consultants, students and academics, employers and other payers who have come together to create a unified voice for chronic disease prevention and care. Through these organizations' continued work as an association, population-based care has become recognized worldwide as an effective and capable means of reducing bottom line health care costs and improving overall individual and population health. Since its inception March 1, 1999, DMAA has grown to include more than 200 corporate and individual members.
